Additional information

This work was carried out as part of an EPSRC grant (EP/D035082/1, Movchan and Jones, £144k, 2006-2009) in collaboration with Liverpool University. Fundamental important results giving effective boundary conditions for thin-walled structures with defects in the vicinity of junctions were derived and these results were applied to wave filtering properties of periodic structures. This led to a successful collaboration with Serco Assurance Ltd (Senior Scientist, Serco Assurance Ltd) on the modelling of wave propagation in non-destructive testing. "This work published in a foremost journal in physical science was considered to be of much fundamental importance…" (Senior Scientist, Serco Assurance Ltd).
