Double-weighted statement

This monograph is the first to examine 'excessive' emotion in early modern English drama and its recent theatrical reproduction. The request to double weight it is based on the considerable body of early modern and recent source materials collected and analysed; the extensive conceptual and historical scope of its thesis concerning the legitmization and control of emotion on stage; the necessity for research across a range of periods and fields (theatre and cultural history, the history of science, performance and cultural studies); and the work's contingency upon rehearsal and production observation over a long period.
