Modeling of load demand due to EV battery charging in distribution systems
This paper presents, for the first time, a methodology for modeling and analyzing the load demand in a distribution system due to electric vehicle (EV) battery charging, with consideration of statistical distribution of travel patterns and usage of EVs. The paper revealed demand under various tariff schemes and that having sufficient generation capacity overall does not guarantee a system’s capability to absorb EV charging load without adverse effects. The constraints at the distribution level must be analyzed. The results are extremely important for future network planning and operation. The paper was ranked one of the top 20 most papers in IEEE Transaction website for a few months in 2013.
