English abstract

A ground-breaking analysis of the meaning of Welsh legal identity, examining principal catalysts that inspired its development, including the National Assembly for Wales; the shift from executive to legislative devolution; enhanced legal status of the Welsh language and its impact on legal culture; legal scholarship’s engagement with Welsh legal identity; devolution of legal institutions and potential for a separate Welsh jurisdiction. These are examined within theirhistorical contexts, and analysed with reference to comparative and international perspectives. Although it is conceded that Welsh legal identity has emerged piecemeal and incrementally, this book provides a holistic and coherent vision for its future.
