Additional information

The paper reports, for the first time, the possibility to use peptide amphiphiles exhibiting specific bioactive epitopes to regenerate bone in vivo. The study opens the possibility to create an injectable, minimally invasive, off-the-shelve, and highly bioactive scaffold, made solely from peptides, to enhance bone regeneration. The paper helped to secure further funding in the form of two grants from the AO Foundation (186,000€ and 114,000€) on the use of small molecules for bone and cartilage regeneration. It also led directly to an invited book chapter (Nanotechnology in Regenerative Medicine, Springer 2012) and invited presentations at four international conferences.
