Additional information

The novel testing method introducing adverse test conditions using an acute cup orientation angle represents the first in its field. It was developed in collaboration with industry and clinical partners (Alister Hart). The work has led to further research supported by industry: Corin Ltd (Simon.Collins@coringroup.com), Tecvac (Jonathon.housden@tecvac.co.uk), the TSB and EPSRC. It has spawned the development of further aggressive and challenging test methodologies, which have particular pertinent relevance to both manufacturing and clinical communities by assessing the risk of joint failure. The work provides a baseline for the evaluation of novel coatings under development for use in total hip bearings.
