Additional information

The paper provides the first quantitative predictions of the changes in anisotropy and soil structure caused by stone column installation in soft natural clays. The predicted results suggest that the installation effects are extremely important, and the results are in line with measured effects on pile driving. The work was part of the proposal for a Marie Curie Fellowship held by Dr Castro at Strathclyde (MRTN-CT-2004-512120 and the Spanish Ministry of Education, FPUAP 2005-0195).
