Additional information

This paper is based on an innovative combination of data sources which include: contemporary sources in several languages (mostly but not exclusively in Italian and English); reconstruction and mapping of historic flows, many of which are now covered by later products; field mapping and, for early twentieth century eruptions, newsreel film. This paper has stimulated further historical hazards research with Italian co-workers.
