Additional information

This publication provided the first in vivo evidence for mechanosensitive genes acting during skeletogenesis, through use of a novel combination of computational (finite element analyses) and experimental (gene expression studies) methods. The research described in this paper won several awards (Engineers Ireland Biomedical Research Medal, 1st Place Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland Student Competition, 2nd Place American Society of Mechanical Engineering PhD Student Paper Competition, all 2007) and a postdoctoral fellowship (2007-2009) from the Irish Research Council for Science Engineering and Technology.
