Paper Pellets: British Literary Culture after Waterloo
The double weighting is claimed because of the very large body of material analysed and the unusually extensive use of primary sources. Karen Feng (University of Houston) in her review in the Byron Journal (39, 2011) describes the author as ‘breathtaking in his ability to quote with equal ease from Don Juan, little-known novels and obscure articles in short-lived magazines’. She notes, perhaps extravagantly, that the approach demands a ‘super-scholar’ equipped with ‘awesome erudition’, identifies Klancher’s Making of English Reading Audiences as the first book to meet the challenge and describes Paper Pellets as constituting ‘a comparable feat’.
