English abstract

This study outlines an ongoing research project of the author on the genesis, proliferation and effects of the stereotype “Jewish Bolshevism” in Europe 1917-1921 and early Jewish reactions. It focusses on the link between anti-Semitism and conspiracy, and discusses the fusion of anti-western and anti-Jewish sentiments and discourse. A major archival finding of the project is presented: the efforts of contemporary Jewish historians in Ukraine and White Russia to systematically document and record the pogroms during the Russian civil war 1918-1921.
