Research, Context and Description: This international contemporary art exhibition explored photography's ability to both conceal and depict aspects of a collective historical and cultural narrative, through the considered curation of works by eight European artists. Following a published feature of my photographs in the international journal Art Review, the curator and historian Dr Sandra Krizic Roban (Institute of Art History, Zagreb University) invited me to present works from an ongoing project that responds to ideas of exile, wilderness and trauma through an investigation of landscape, and corresponding photographs of specific landscapes. In the series of nine large scale photographic works presented, I explore aspects of W G Sebald's writing and particularly his great meditation on fragmentation, ruination and the volatility of place (Macfarlane: Unrecounted 2012) in The Rings of Saturn. The exhibition was presented in Zagreb's National Art Pavilion and reviewed in Croatia, Slovenia and Austria, with a critical review published in English in the international journal Camera Austria.
