Additional information
The discovery of new bacteria and microalgae for CO2 fixation is hampered by the lack of methods to identify hitherto-unculturable microorganisms (accounting for 99% in natural environment). This work is the first to demonstrate that single cell Raman micro-spectroscopy and imaging technology can be applied to identify microorganisms for CO2 fixation and quantify the fixation rate of microbial communities in seawater. This label-free technology paves the way for the development of Raman activated cell sorting.
