Additional information

A new optimization method based on the uniform damage distribution concept was developed for optimum performance-based seismic design, which results in more efficient buildings with up to 40% less structural cost and 60% less structural damage under strong earthquakes. This work is novel as it bridges the gap between conventional design (e.g. Eurocode-8) and newer performance-based guidelines (e.g. FEMA-356). This research will be implemented into the new generation of Eurocode-8 through membership of Dr Hajirasouliha in European fib Commission Task Group 7.7.
