Double-weighted statement

Rowe's Philip Larkin: Art and Self is a substantial research monograph, defending both an overall thesis (about Larkin's interest in the self and aesthetic experience) and original subsidiary theses in all five chapters; each is equivalent to a distinct research article. The author has been invited to speak on a number graduate-school programmes in the UK and US where the book is being studied, and Macmillan nominated it for the MLA’s James Russell Lowell Prize for the best work of literary criticism in 2012 – both testaments to its scholarly seriousness and impact.
