Additional information

A highly novel method for producing porous media with continuous pore size stratification is developed. The impact of this work is three-fold: (i) for the first time has been possible to manufacture efficiently relatively thin porous layers with improved sound absorbing properties; (ii) it is now possible to understand how continuous pore size stratification affects the ability of these layers to absorb sound; (iii) this work led to the development and validation of an advanced theoretical model for predicting the acoustical properties of porous media with stratification.
