T-stress determination using thermoelastic stress analysis
This work was the basis of further significant developments, since the software presented in this paper to determine K and T-stress was adapted further by the authors for displacement data. This software is now being used with Cytec Ltd (two industrially funded PhDs and a KTP – contact details available) to quantify the fracture behaviour of new toughened polymer formulations for fibre composites. The novel technique to identify the crack tip from thermoelastic images led to innovative work on crack tip plasticity as part of a new collaboration with Michgan State University (Professor M Crimp (crimp@egr.msu.edu) funded by EPSRC (EP/H05197X/1).
