Influence of crosslinkers and crosslinking method on the properties of gelatin films extracted from leather solid waste
The paper investigates the importance of the method and crosslinking agent applied to proteins in the application of surface coatings to leather. The research carried out was the culmination of an EU-funded multidisciplinary project, FP5 called RESTORM, at the time, one of the five largest EU projects. The research was presented at European and international conferences, viewed and cited on numerous occasions, this has lead to the development of other research projects such as the utilisation of keratin from tannery hair waste as a nitrogen source in fertilisers, as well as surface coatings for leather as a protein binding agent.
