Imaging of 3-D plasmaspheric electron density using GPS to LEO satellite differential phase observations
This paper was invited to be published in a Special Issue of the American Geophysical Union journal Radio Science and reports new algorithms that enable the first fully 4D data-assimilation imaging of the Earth's plasmasphere. Spencer was a PDRA working on the project supervised by Mitchell. The work led to invitations to Mitchell to speak at two international meetings on Space Weather in the USA in 2011 and 2012. The resulting software from this paper represents a significant extension to Bath's MIDAS imaging algorithms and has led to requests for several new research licenses. The work is interdisciplinary with mathematical physics.
