Fouling control of a membrane coupled photocatalytic process treating greywater
This research led to an international patent for a chemical reactor for the removal of chemicals from contaminated water that are otherwise difficult to remove (PCT/WO2006/079837A1, granted). The patent was assigned to a Cranfield University spinout company, Water Innovate, prior to raising >£500k of investment (www.waterinnovate.com). Further development by Water Innovate was funded through DTI (‘Membox’, £517K) and EU (‘Innowatech’, €2.75M) consortia. Water Innovate was bought by the UK water technology company Bluewaterbio in 2010 (www.bluewaterbio.com). Follow-on research has been supported by Severn-Trent Water (contact R&D Manager, markR.jones@severntrent.co.uk).
