Additional information

This research was funded by Anglian Water, Severn Trent Water, Thames Water Utilities, United Utilities, and Yorkshire Water. Correlating operational conditions of the activated sludge process with nonyphenol ethoxylates removal rates (Elizabeth.Wood@yorkshirewater.co.uk) led to a collaboration with UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) and the Environment Agency, to investigate the fate of hazardous pollutants in the environment, through the Chemical Investigations Programme (CIP) (http://www.ukwir.org/site/web/news/news-items/ukwir-chemicals-investigation-programme). This project identified cost effective measures to meet the requirements of the Water Framework Directive. (michael.gardner@atkinsglobal.com).
