This paper was an early part of the work in a larger DSTL programme to improve the neck protection of troops in current operations. This has resulted in a new design of ballistic collar which is undergoing user trials within MOD DE&S (contact email available on request). The research was performed in collaboration between Cranfield University and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.
