Additional information

This is a substantial stand-alone item, published by the internationally-recognised Carcanet Press of Manchester. In this collection, myths – such as the story of Actaeon or Argus the Hundred-eyed – are reinterpreted from different perspectives, sometimes modern, sometimes not. Historical figures, as well, like the Alexandrian-Greek poet Cavafy, the Roman Emperor Domitian, or the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, are re-read and re-envisioned from different angles. The major piece concluding the collection is a ‘re-telling’ of a Byzantine folk poem, ‘The Dead Brother’s Song’, twenty-four pages in length.
