Additional information

This paper presents a novel development to the Discontinuity Layout Optimization (DLO) procedure which enables arbitrary rotational failure mechanisms to be identified using DLO for the first time. This allows limit loads of unparalleled accuracy to be obtained for any plane strain problem/loading, further enhancing the current capability of DLO. This development is currently being incorporated into the LimitState; GEO geotechnical analysis software, in use in 30 countries worldwide (Email: Dr Tom Pritchard, t.j.pritchard@limitstate.com)
