Additional information

<26> We construct virtual environments automatically from scanned or hand drawn archive maps that can be navigated in both space and time. The fidelity of the model is improved by consultation with historians using a semi-automatic interface. All generated information is combined into an intuitive interface called a 4D navigable movie. At any point on the ‘journey’ the user can move to other time periods. This work has been applied to EU heritage projects (Spatial Metro, 3D-Coform, HEART) and has led to a successful KTP (Historacle) and is fundamental to the work of the UEA enterprise Virtual Past (www.virtualpast.co.uk).
