<28> Concepts in Turing (1952) underpin mainstream thinking on the autonomous patterning of developing organisms. However the next step, morphogenesis, has proved difficult. Here, we develop perhaps the first computational environment (GFtbox) and associated theory for modelling the development of biological organs under the influence of gene expression patterns,. The ‘growing polarised tissue framework’ enabled us to show how the complex shape of a Snapdragon flower might emerge from a simple shape of a few hundred cells (Output 2).
