Double-weighted statement

The data on which this study of the book trade is based relates principally to six countries (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and England) over seventy years. This data was extracted from several archives in Belgium, Germany and France, and about 500 primary sources and infrastructural studies. It argues a complex case in respect of the relationship between commercial interests, religious confessions and the circulation of learned materials in printed form, and demonstrates from external and internal evidence the reasons for the collapse of the learned book market in the 1630s.
