This 400pp book is the first history of the League of Nations’ contribution to global economic governance across four decades. It analyses complex technical issues in trade and monetary policies in their international political context. It is based on hitherto unused archive collections of international organizations in Geneva, Basle and New York; as well as the central banks of Britain and the USA; the state archives of Britain, France, Germany, Ireland, the USA and Australia; and private papers held in 9 additional private institutions. The primary and secondary sources were in English, French, German, Italian and Dutch.
