The research leading to this publication was carried out whilst holding a Leverhulme Special Research Fellowship, and with a British Academy Small Grant Award. In March 2013, the book was described by the President of the Association of Social Anthropologists, Professor James Fairhead, as a fascinating book on the history of the profession in an email sent to all members.
