Additional information

<01> A miniaturized modified planar inverted-F antenna was designed with a software model and realised as a prototype. It is for ultra-wideband communication systems (e.g. IEEE 802.15.3a), requiring a very challenging impedance bandwidth of 125%, covering 3-13 GHz, for reflection coefficient <-10 dB (achieved). The design is very compact, consisting of a planar rectangular monopole with several complex passive loading elements. The dimensions were 20×10×7.5 mm, making it electrically small over most of the band and suitable for incorporation in mobile devices: making an antenna both wideband and electrically small is challenging, due to the physics of electromagnetic devices
