The Design of a Resistively Loaded Bowtie Antenna for Applications in Breast Cancer Detection Systems
<01> An output from the joint group between Glyndwr and Bradford universities. This is an example of the expertise of the wireless technology group being applied to an antenna for a non-communications application, although the skills required (Ultra wideband antenna design) are also very relevant for modern wireless communications. The design procedure involved adaptive modification through iterated modelling and genetic-algorithm optimization. The required wideband operating characteristic was achieved through manipulation of the physical structure of the antenna design, resulting in an ultra-wideband impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 2) from 3.3 GHz to 10.0 GHz. The antenna was also modelled in a tissue-equivalent dielectric medium to prove its utility in medical therapy.
