Double-weighted statement

This edition of one of the most celebrated French novels uses a base text not reproduced since 1787, but recommended by Laclos in his correspondence, and includes a forgotten preface by the author himself. The result of four years of archival research, the edition is marked not only by the breadth of its critical scope, choice of notes and variants (180 pages out of 1040), and substantial introduction (67 pages), but also by its inclusion of a wide-ranging selection of annotated texts and illustrations (280 pages, including 87 illustrations) which charts the book’s reception through the ages.
