Additional information

Many engineering structures use fasteners that require holes, such as bolts or rivets. Fastener holes act as stress concentrators and hence are potential source of cracks. Paper describes application of novel hybrid experimental/analytical method to measure crack-tip stress. Work shows that technique could be used to provide an accurate, quick and cheap measurement, ideal for use in industrial conditions.
