Additional information

Existing algorithms for precipitation estimation via polarimetric weather radars need regional tuning and are rainfall-rate dependent. Paper develops composite algorithm that combines known formulae for light, medium and heavy rain. Algorithm is tested on operational polarimetric C-band radar and shown to outperform existing ones, especially at higher rain rates. Work was collaboration with Prof. Bringi (Colorado State University) funded by Leverhulme Trust and led to plenary presentation at 2011 Weather Radar & Hydrology International Symposium (Exeter). Paper is identified as research group highlight in REF5 and is in top 3% of most-cited in journal since publication (Web of Science, 14/7/2013).
