Strongly enhanced photon collection from diamond defect centers under microfabricated integrated solid immersion lenses
Light from defects in crystal lattice of diamond could provide high-brightness sources of single photons for quantum communication and computing. Properties of defects also mean they could be used to store quantum bits. Paper shows how collection efficiency from single emitters in diamond can be improved by order-of-magnitude compared to previous state-of-the-art. Technology was immediately implemented by world-leading groups [e.g. Prof. Hanson at Technical University of Delft, Netherlands; Prof. Jelezko, Ulm University, Sweden] and is generating Nature papers. Paper is in top 3% of most-cited in journal since publication (Web of Science 14/7/2013).
