Additional information
Dielectric elastomers are new type of high-strain actuator with performance potentially similar to living muscle but currently limited by manufacturing techniques. Paper presents advanced manufacturing process able to maximise dielectric-breakdown strength of layers through optimisation of spray-gun positioning. Paper led to Royal Academy of Engineering Global Research Award (2012-3) to Burgess for four months research at Duke University. Work led to first-author Araromi's appointment at EPFL Lausanne [contact: Prof. Shea, Head of Group].
