Scaling effects in notched composites
Paper offers new understanding of fundamental mechanisms controlling strength scaling in composites under tensile and compressive loading. Tests have been used by many groups worldwide as benchmark cases for assessing models, and have been included in World Wide Failure Exercise [contact: Project Technical Authority, Qinetiq]. Work led to TTCP inter-governmental collaboration with US Air Force Research Laboratories and University of British Columbia [UK contact: Project Technical Authority, DSTL; US contact: Materials and Manufacturing Technology Directorate, Wright Patterson Air-force Base]. Paper is in top 1% of most-cited in journal since publication (Web of Science, 16/7/2013).
