A framework for mapping industrial emergence
This first retrospective application of roadmapping methods to map industrial evolution and change at both sector and firm levels enabled development of framework for supporting strategic planning for early stage technology ventures, including pre-commercial university-based research. Resulted in set of practical workshop-based strategic planning methods – e.g. Phaal et al. (2012), ‘Charting exploitation strategies for early stage technology’, Research-Technology Management, 55(2), pp. 34-42, US Industrial Research Institute (www.iriweb.org). Practical strategy development methods were piloted in collaboration with companies in five sectors – e.g. sensor technology in Oil & Gas (Phil Southerden, Commercialisation Manager, Upstream R&T, BP, ID_in_audit_file@bp.com).
