The first and most complex 10 Gb/s optically interconnected system and the first low cost, high precision, passively aligned 80 Gb/s optical connector enabling optical interconnect technology to compete and replace copper track PCBs in high end switching, storage and computing array systems. Led to EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Secondment, KTS and a new post at UK Company Xyratex. Filed Patents US 07936953; US 08007965 licensed to Samtec.
