Additional information

Demonstrated the possibility of using a single electro-optical transducer (the AFPM) as part of a photonic antenna to carry duplex 802.11a Wi-Fi signals over a single fibre. Conventionally, a laser diode and photodetector would be used instead of a single component to carry the data in the up- and down-links separately and on two different fibres. This reduction in component count has the potential to reduce the cost of implementing radio-over-fibre systems significantly. Led to collaboration and a joint paper with Thales Systèmes Aéroportés, Elancourt, France employing the AFPM as an optically remoted RF probe for aerospace radars (http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/MWP.2012.6474089).
