Generalized rate-equation analysis of excitation exchange between silicon nanoclusters and erbium ions
Addresses inconsistencies in modelling of nanocluster-Er interactions reported in the literature, which can be exploited to enable highly efficient integrated Si-based sources for comms. The paper develops a firm theoretical framework to describe these interactions. The work described led to further funding from EPSRC in the form of a £1.5M collaborative programme between UCL, Imperial College London, University of Manchester and the University of Surrey (EP/H000240/1). It also led to invited talks at SEDWAL international workshop on erbium-doped silicon nanocluster optical amplifiers Trento, Italy, and at the Electrochemical Society Spring meeting 2009 (San Francisco).
