Measurements and analysis of the radar signature of a new wind turbine design at X-band
This international collaborative research with Kyushu University, Japan (Y. Ohya) was supported by the Japanese Ministry of Environment. We studied if the 5kW Wind Lens (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQexzNg_e9A, http://www.riam.kyushu-u.ac.jp/windeng/en_aboutus_detail04.html) disrupts surveillance radars. The EU has targeted 20% of energy should come from renewable sources by 2020; currently 50% of wind farm developments in UK are rejected by CAA and MoD because of radar interference. This research provides detailed analysis of methods to reduce the interference (http://www.riam.kyushu-u.ac.jp/windeng/img/aboutus_detail_image/EWEA2011_poster.pdf). Full scale 100kW Wind lenses (http://www.riam.kyushu-u.ac.jp/windeng/en_aboutus_detail04_03.html) have been released and the 5kW ones are now commercially available (http://windlens.com).
