Category C explanatory text

Dr De Brito was appointed as an Independent Research Fellow/Birmingham Fellow in March 2012. Dr De Brito’s research uses behavioural, neurocognitive and structural/functional magnetic resonance brain imaging techniques to better understand the characteristics of different subgroups of children and adults displaying severe antisocial behaviour and psychopathic traits. Since coming to the School of Psychology as a Birmingham Fellow, Dr De Brito has been establishing his own group, and has recently succeeded in a major collaborative bid for EU funding (FP7-HEALTH-2013-INNOVATION-1) for which he is the lead researcher in Birmingham. When his Swiss Fellowship expires at the end of February 2014 he will move fully to a Birmingham Fellow appointment.

Category C explanatory text

Dr Sligte is the holder of a Newton International Fellowship, which precludes him taking up a contract of employment with UoB, although the project which forms the core of this Fellowship is wholly focussed at Birmingham. His research will use brain imaging to aim to link iconic memory lifetime to rhythmic activity in visual cortex, and rhythmic activity between prefrontal and parietal cortex to working memory capacity. He will then apply brain stimulation to visual cortex to alter iconic memory lifetime, and to parietal/prefrontal cortex to alter working memory capacity. He works with Professor Shapiro, making extensive use of UoB MEG facilities, unavailable at the University of Amsterdam.
