Expérience du déplacement et perception de la patrie les communautés de rapatriés et la diaspora Russes
In 1991, Russians residing in non-Russian regions of the former Soviet Union found themselves stranded beyond the new Federation’s borders. As political boundaries shifted, they experienced a “stationary displacement” reinforced through subsequent political and economic changes. Some chose, or were forced, to go back to Russia. Others chose to remain, or were unable to leave. Using empirical research, the interactions between displacement and perceptions of the homeland are explored across and within two communities of Russians: returnees who live in the Russian Federation and residents of Tashkent (Uzbekistan). A shifting sense of “Russian-ness” is observed in both communities.
