Electron density measurement of dc positive arc propagating over an ice surface based on Hα line
The transmission of power using High Voltage Direct Current is growing rapidly. Flashover on ice-covered insulators causes severe damages to normal operation of these lines. This original work employed optical emission spectroscopy to measure the electron density of arc. The results of this rigorous experimental work improved the knowledge regarding the ionization degree and the state of thermal equilibrium. It is published in the leading journal of “IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science”. The acquired knowledge regarding this fundamental characteristic of arc (electron density) is being used in validation of physical theories of in leading research groups in Canada and China.
