Additional information

This paper investigates the optimal operation of tubular reactors inside steam cracking furnaces for ethylene manufacture. It is based on a complex pseudo-dynamic model, developed from first principles, and includes dynamic optimization of the reactors’ operation, making it the most sophisticated model of its kind. It demonstrates that operating profit can be increased by over 13% through the use of dynamic optimization. This research will have a major influence on the operation of ethylene plants. SABIC (2nd largest diversified chemical company) is interested in its use (Ref: Dr Abdullah Alqahtani abdullahmq@sabic.com).
