Additional information

<29>This paper represents the first journal publication of a neural network providing the means of classifying multiple choice answers into groups that are mapped onto appropriate online diagnostic feedback. It is both a novel neural network application and an original approach to facilitation of real-time online personalised, diagnostic feedback for supporting learning in VLEs. Rigorous testing and evaluation is presented and leads to the conclusion that the subjects’ learning is supported to a significant extent. This approach has since found much broader application across several subject areas (including English language, computer programming and mathematics teaching).
