Additional information

This paper helps establish the realistic prospect of silicon nanocrystal quantum confinement for 3rd generation solar cells through practical, cost-effective, realisation of nanocrystal synthesis and device fabrication. The work formed the basis for subsequent collaboration with St Andrews on all-inorganic heterojunction solar devices which recently received EPSRC funding (EP/K022237/1), an invitation to join the Supersolar Solar Energy hub (EP/J017361/1) and extended our formal collaboration with AIST (Japan).
