Additional information
The use of osteosarcoma derived osteoblast-like cell lines as an alternative to human primary cells is controversial. We provide definitive evidence that the standard U20S osteosarcoma cell is not a good model for human osteoblasts and instead they may serve as a model for composition differences between normal bone and osteoblastic lesions. This work derived from the REMEDI project on regenerative medicine (EP/C534247/1), involved collaboration with Dublin Institute of Technology and resulted in an invited paper at UKSAF 2012 (uksaf.org).
