Additional information

The paper presents the first study on the interaction of caisson foundations with a normal fault, combining numerical analyses with centrifuge model tests. The tests, conducted at the University of Dundee, employed a novel split-box apparatus developed as part of the €1M EU FP6 project QUAKER (EVG1-CT-2002-00064). The developed analysis methodology has been applied in practice to the design of a major 425 m long rail bridge in Greece (SG26 at Domokos). The validated analysis methodology from the paper was used to assess comparatively the foundation alternatives and to dimension the bridge and its seismic isolation system.
